AAA is offering free rides for stoned 4/20 drivers in Northern California

Find yourself too stoned to drive on 4/20? Don’t get behind the wheel after an afternoon of bong rips. AAA of Northern California is stepping up with free safe rides 4:20 p.m. Friday to 4:20 a.m. Saturday.

That’s according to a press release from the non-profit service organization. If you need a ride home, call 800-AAA-HELP or 800-222-4357.

Free rides are available in parts of Northern California, Nevada and Alaska. AAA promotes a similar safe ride program on major drinking holidays like St. Patrick’s Day.

California has not established a “per se” level, such as a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level, that would make a person legally too stoned to drive. That’s made it tough for the state’s patrol officers to catch high drivers – but not impossible.

As with alcohol, it’s better to err on the side of caution when it comes to driving. Take the free ride.
